Guess I'm older than dirt since I recognize all of those posters.... My Daddy smoked for 50 yrs.--but finally stopped. However, smoking had done its damage and he died of Emphysema in 1969... I never smoked, thank God.
Even though these existed and were considered the 'norm' it does seem rather shocking to have thought that cigarettes were good and that the best gift for a woman would be a vacuum cleaner (what a sucky gift!).
I can just imagine Heather's response if she opened up a big box with a Hoover in it on Christmas. I'd have to come sleep on your couch for a while until things cooled down at home.
Those cigaretted ads are quite vile! The one with the baby especially so! Times have sure changed, Sylvia! PS: If I gave a vacuum cleaner as a gift to any of the women in my life I'd get clobbered with it! ;-)
I do so appreciate and enjoy your comments! Always wonderful to get feedback! The interaction with other bloggers has been one of the most rewarding things about blogging!
*smile*
ReplyDeleteThe other day I spotted the most unusual (to say it kindly) Christmas tree ornament ever: a red Hover Vac!
Would you like to have it?
Forget the vacuum and buy me an ipad instead ~:)
ReplyDeleteLove the new header, Sylvia.. but why aren't you flying the plane? ..to busy bloggin!
These are fun, and some would be considered so shocking nowadays...
ReplyDeletescary 'vintage', there!

ReplyDeleteAND, what a convincing banner!!!!
Yes, I remember. Now it's amazing, and appalling!
ReplyDeleteTalk about signs of the times! I can't imagine getting that hyped up over a Hoover, though!
ReplyDeleteI love looking at old magazines and their ads.
