Please do read and follow the directions!!We're well into the winter season, even though officially, winter doesn't begin for two more weeks. Last year we had a very unusual December for this area -- we had an incredible amount of snow that lasted -- not just a day or maybe two, which is the norm and certainly no more than an inch or two at the most -- last year we had nearly ten inches in many places and it lasted off and on for several weeks. The airport shut down, there was basically no public transportation and the big Christmas that we'd planned with two of my kids coming was very quickly trashed. Still, it had it's beautiful moments as all seasons do if you take the time to look. So, as a reminder, I thought I'd relive a little of last December!

But, you know what? It's still a beautiful world in spite of rain or snow. Yesterday morning I found this frost "painting" on the glass top table on our deck!
And the harbor is still beautiful with or without ice in the water and I wouldn't trade my world for another one anywhere!

ReplyDeleteIt was definitely a different Christmas last year. We finally had our on Presidents' Day. Turkey dinner and all the usual suspects. Packages had finally made it to my daughter's house on a hill. As of Christmas Eve, there had been more than a dozen sitting at the UPS center, including Santa's offerings and the mailman had made it there only once in the previous week.
ReplyDeleteIt was matched only by the year we went to our son's. He lived in a one room apartment, but had only Christmas day off and no transportation. The snow started on Christmas Day. Five of us became snowed in there for five days.
I hope we can make it over the pass this year. Both ways.
That reminds me of when the small welsh town I went to university in got snowed in for a few days - the food supplies in the supermarket got rather alarmingly low!

I hope we don't get snow any time soon! Even if it does make for beautiful scenery.
ReplyDeleteThat is just beautiful my friend. I love to look at the pictures and I'm glad I don't live in it at the same time. I hope the airport will be open the end of January :) LOL. Looks sooooo cold there. My mom sent me an email from Carson City, NV, and yes she will be there so you will meet her as well that it snowed big time there last night. I have to say, better you guys than me LOL :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous world you find yourself in today. My friend Biene sent me an almost identical (to your first picture) cell phone picture of her porch this morning. The major difference? - she had about an INCH of snow compared to your oh about four?

ReplyDeleteHere, my garden is relishing the rain today although it is spoiling our neighbour's cherry crop which they have just started picking.
Some good, some bad, somewhere there is an equation in there.

I enjoyed seeing your snow, Sylvia. We are have some Florida snow but it melted on the way down and turn into rain (snicker snicker:) It was above normal at 82 degrees. That just doesn't feel like Christmas. So thanks for cooling me down...

ReplyDeleteI love that photo of the grove of trees all naked and barren in the winter snow. I know some people would say it is bleak, but somehow it speaks to me, and I am a person who loves sunshine and can't live without it. Still, there is a quiet beauty there.

These captures of the snow are amazing Thanks for sharing with this African who doesn't often see snow It snows here in our part of South Africa, but the snow falls early in the morning and by midday nothing is left. You've reminded me of a time when it snowed heavily here (July 1996) and the snow lay thick for THREE days. The whole town came to a standstill. Thanks again for these beautiful shots of your world. I enjoyed them immensely.
