Amazing Trees and Their Sad History

California lumberjacks work on Redwoods. Thousands of tree rings in these ancient trees - each over 1000+ years old or even much older...such a shame...irreplaceable giants.

park treasures all gone but a few –
what kind
of men would do such a thing for over 100 years - destroy something they cannot
ever fix or replace for 2000 years?
It is an
evergreen, long-lived, monoecious tree living 1200–1800 years or more.
An estimated 95% or more of the original old-growth redwood forest has been cut.
In 1850, old-growth
redwood forest covered more than 2,000,000 acres...down to
8,100 acres by 1968, by which time nearly 90% of the original redwood trees had been logged. I have been to this forest and seen a few of those that have survived. It is heartbreaking to realize the destruction and loss that we humans are responsible for. It all comes down to this - $$$$$$!! |

What Can I Say?
I'm interested in almost everything. Use to like to travel, but it's too expensive now. I take Tai Chi classes, swim, volunteer in a Jump-start program for pre-schoolers. I'm an avid reader and like nearly everyone these days I follow politics avidly. I'm a former teacher and Special Projects Coordinator for a Telecommunications company, Assistant to the President of a Japanese silicon wafer manufacturing company. Am now enjoying retirement -- most of the time. I have two daughters, one son-in-law and two sons scattered all over the country. No grandchildren.
