A Smile, Some Sadness and Some Thoughts About Life

 Friends!

Some Thoughts on Aging and the Alternative

My children's Father doesn't have much longer to live and it hurts me to see their pain. He has been a wonderful father and has had a remarkable life. And as I look around me here in the senior complex where I live, I see much of the same thing happening with other people and their parents/relatives. I'm very blessed to be as well and as strong as I am and when a friend sent this to me  I realized it was pretty much how I feel and I thought I'd share it with you this evening.
As I've aged, I've become kinder to myself, and less critical of  myself. I've become my own friend..

I have seen too many dear friends leave this world too soon; before  they understood the great freedom that comes with aging.

Whose business is it if I choose to read or play on the computer  until 4 AM or sleep until noon? I will dance with myself to those wonderful tunes of the 60 and 70's, and if I, at the same time, wish  to weep over a lost love .. I will.
I will walk the beach in a swim suit that is stretched over a bulging body, and will dive into the waves with  abandon if I choose to, despite the pitying glances from the jet set.

They, too, will get old.

I know I am sometimes forgetful.  But there again, some of life is just as well forgotten. And I  eventually remember the important things.

Sure, over the years my heart has been broken. How can your heart not  break when you lose a loved one, or when a child suffers, or even when somebody's beloved pet gets hit by a car? But broken  hearts are what give us strength and understanding and compassion. A heart never broken is pristine and sterile and will  never know the joy of being imperfect.

I am so blessed to have lived long enough to have  my hair turning gray, and to have my youthful laughs be forever  etched into deep grooves on my face.
So many have never laughed, and so many have died before their hair could turn silver.
As you get older, it is easier to be positive. You care less about  what other people think. I don't question myself anymore..
I've even earned the right to be wrong.

So, to answer your question, I like being old. It has set me free. I  like the person I have become. I am not going to live forever, but while I am still here, I will not waste time lamenting what could  have been, or worrying about what will be. And I shall eat dessert  every single day (if I feel like it).

Enjoy your evening and may your life be filled with lots of love and laughter.

A BEAUTIFUL MESSAGE ABOUT GROWING OLDER:

Shit...

I forgot the words....

Oh, well, how about this!

The reason Politicians try so hard to get re-elected is that they would 'hate' to have to make a living under the laws they've passed.

Smith climbs to the top of Mt. Sinai to get close enough to talk to God. Looking up, he asks the Lord... 'God, what does a million years mean to you?'

The Lord replies, 'A minute.'

Smith asks, 'And what does a million dollars mean to you?'

The Lord replies, 'A penny.'

'Smith asks, 'Can I have a penny?'

'The Lord replies, 'In a minute.'
Enjoy your day!

Ah, fall and gray skies have arrived in Seattle, but the temps are pleasant!  I was reminiscing about my birthday this year -- it was such fun to be able to visit the harbor again and the Bird Sanctuary and get to see my duck and turtle friends as well as a lovely sunset. And then I happened to see some of the colored glass pieces that I had given my son and his bride-to-be! So, that is what you have for today!  Hope you all have a beautiful weekend with lots of love and laughter!!

How About a Laugh to Start the Day?

A New Priest in Texas

A new priest, born and raised in Texas, comes to serve in a city parish and is nervous about hearing confessions, so he asks the older priest to sit in on his sessions.

The new priest hears a couple of confessions, then the old priest asks him to step out of the confessional for a few suggestions.

The old priest suggests, "Cross your arms over your chest, and rub your chin with one hand and try saying things like 'yes, I see,' and 'yes, go on,' and 'I understand.'

The new priest crosses his arms, rubs his chin with one hand and repeats all the suggested remarks to the old priest.

The old priest says, "Now, don't you think that's a little better than slapping your knee and saying, "No shit, what happened next?"

Can't believe it's the beginning of another new week!! The older I get, the quicker the time flies -- not complaining mind you, flying time is better than the alternative of  "no more time"!  And after the anniversary of 9/ll yesterday, it was easy to find the wonders of my part of Our World!!  We have such beautiful beaches and mountains, wonderful parks where you can walk, run or just absorb the beauty! And we have some of the most interesting malls! This one doesn't look like a mall at all! I mean, how many of you come face to face with a large, cocky rooster like this guy on any of your shopping trips??? And, of course, there's Mt. Rainier, mysteriously wrapped in clouds!
May your week be a wonderful one with lots of love and laughter and beauty!

What Can I Say?

What Can I Say?
I'm interested in almost everything. Use to like to travel, but it's too expensive now. I take Tai Chi classes, swim, volunteer in a Jump-start program for pre-schoolers. I'm an avid reader and like nearly everyone these days I follow politics avidly. I'm a former teacher and Special Projects Coordinator for a Telecommunications company, Assistant to the President of a Japanese silicon wafer manufacturing company. Am now enjoying retirement -- most of the time. I have two daughters, one son-in-law and two sons scattered all over the country. No grandchildren.
