That's My World -- Woodland Park Zoo

Time to show and share your world again. That's My World is graciously hosted every Tuesday by Klaus, Sandy, Ivar, Wren, Fishing Guy and Louise. To sign up and share your world with us click here.

Since Sunday was Mother's Day and my son knows how much I love zoos and animals, he handed me the camera and told me we were going to the Woodland Park Zoo for a day with the animals. It's a lovely zoo in a very heavily wooded area that is as close to a natural habitat as you can have for animals in the middle of a large city. They sponser more than three dozen field conservation projects around the world, helping everything from butterflies to elephants. Remember to click on any of the photos to enlarge and get a better look.

They have numerous programs designed to help acquaint and educate the public. Programs such as Giraffe and Elephant Feeding, African Village Storytelling, Raptor Flight Programs, Upapi! (African Beading) and general information programs called Keeper Talk. There is also a variety of summer events.

Adam and I had a grand morning there and I wanted to share the fun with you today!

It really feels like a kind of natural habitat as you don't see any cages, there are lots of trees, watering spots, open fields for the animals to enjoy as well as the two-legged visitors.

A great Mother's Day and lovely part of My World!

What a wonderful day at a wonderful zoo. You got some great photos; I especially liked your shots of mama Lion and of the Flamingos. I don't think I have ever seen Otters stand before. You had a great escort in your attractive son. You both radiate happiness.

What fun! The natural habitats are so much nicer for the animals forced to live out their lives in captivity. Infinity better than cages!

It looks like you had a wonderful day. I was at that zoo with my grandchildren once. Their parents went to college in Kirkland. I remember that it was a beautiful place. It was winter when we visited so it looked a little different that your beautiful pictures.

What Can I Say?

What Can I Say?
I'm interested in almost everything. Use to like to travel, but it's too expensive now. I take Tai Chi classes, swim, volunteer in a Jump-start program for pre-schoolers. I'm an avid reader and like nearly everyone these days I follow politics avidly. I'm a former teacher and Special Projects Coordinator for a Telecommunications company, Assistant to the President of a Japanese silicon wafer manufacturing company. Am now enjoying retirement -- most of the time. I have two daughters, one son-in-law and two sons scattered all over the country. No grandchildren.
