Evening, Wisdom and Beauty

Bittersweet October. The mellow, messy, leaf-kicking, perfect pause between the opposing miseries of summer and winter. ~Carol Bishop Hipps

Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter. ~Mark Twain

Growing old is mandatory; growing up is optional. ~Chili Davis

Nobody grows old merely by living a number of years. We grow old by deserting our ideals. Years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul. ~Samuel Ullman

Beauty is not in the face; beauty is a light in the heart. ~Kahlil Gibran

I love to think of nature as an unlimited broadcasting station, through which God speaks to us every hour, if we will only tune in. ~George Washington Carver

Absence diminishes small loves and increases great ones, as the wind blows out the candle and fans the bonfire. ~François Duc de La Rochefoucauld

If our mind attaches to matter or to anything in the physical, it makes matter all the more denser as well as a heavy feeling in the mind. We indeed make things matter by sitting on the issue.

With age, many look to the past for what they have lost, and in the process, lose sight of what it New. The new has no wrinkles. Life has a flexible face.

Gibran is amazing,"...a light in the heart"
How beautiful is that?
Thanks for sharing his quotes Sylvia. I don't know if I would have ever come across him otherwise.

I needed that. I looked in the mirror today and was struck by how my face is changing. I should not let that influence me in any way shape or form, (okay, I'll use Oil of Olay), but I won't let the aging thing slow me down, or discourage me from moving forward.

Thanks as usual for the quotes and soothing pictures. Again I am glad you quoted my favorite, Francois de LaRochefoucauld. "a true friend is the greatest of all blessings, and that which we take the least care of all to acquire".

What Can I Say?

What Can I Say?
I'm interested in almost everything. Use to like to travel, but it's too expensive now. I take Tai Chi classes, swim, volunteer in a Jump-start program for pre-schoolers. I'm an avid reader and like nearly everyone these days I follow politics avidly. I'm a former teacher and Special Projects Coordinator for a Telecommunications company, Assistant to the President of a Japanese silicon wafer manufacturing company. Am now enjoying retirement -- most of the time. I have two daughters, one son-in-law and two sons scattered all over the country. No grandchildren.
