That's My World -- San Juan Islands

Time again for That's My World, a marvelous place to share the beauty of your world with us! My World is hosted each week by Klaus, Sandy, Wren, Fishing Guy, Louise AND I'm very happy and honored to have been invited to join the team. Click here to sign up and share your world!

I haven't been able to visit all the islands, but I have been to Orcas Island although it was years ago. The San Juan Islands images are from Google.

Meet the magic San Juan Islands! The idyllic San Juan Islands are located in the northern reaches of Puget Sound, some 80 miles north of Seattle in the northwesternmost corner of the state of Washington. Their natural beauty, equitable climate and relaxed life-style make them an increasingly popular place with vacationers as well as retirees. Over the years, the San Juans have been included in various lists of America's most desirable places to live. There are approximately 172 islands in the group, depending on how you count them. The four largest and most populated are accessible by Washington State Ferries out of nearby Anacortes. These are: San Juan, Orcas, Lopez, and Shaw Islands. Waldron, Stuart, Blakely and Decatur Islands also have significant populations although they are only accessible by smaller boats, or by air.

A few of the smallest islands are owned and lived on by individual families.

The islands together comprise San Juan County, one of the smallest in the state, but Washington's fastest-growing county. The county seat is at Friday Harbor, on San Juan Island. It is also the islands' largest and only incorporated town.

These pictures really show off the beauty of the area. I have wanted to vist Orcas Island for a long time.

My Mother Inlaw's life long friend used to and maybe still owns a B&B on Orcas.

I hope you are having a great day!

lovely place, we visited there several years ago and had a great time. We ate lunch at Friday harbor and toured the island. Would love to return some time.

Congratulations on being one of our hosts for this my favourite meme.
I would love one of those islands to live on with the mild climate that a surrounding body of water gives one. A lovely, comprehensive post.

I love the islands. Whidbey Island is featured in one of my stories in my book. My mother and father lived a little north, on Saltspring Island,(before I was born), and we have friends that live on Pender Island. Great post--great pics!

First of all - congratulations, Sylvia. Already left you a comment over at MWT. This is such an inspiring post for me. A school friend of my son has visited the San Juan Islands several times to go on the whale trips, and a blog friend of mine has a holiday home in Anacortes so I know a little about them. the photos you've selected are lovely. Adding it to the holiday wishlist right now...!

I know I have heard of these islands, but like everything else these days, my brain put the information in a hidden cell.

It was great learning about them and seeing the phtos. Thanks for the tour.

I always associate Spanish names to places in the southern part of the US. Wonder how the name got up there. Thank you for a fantastic introduction to the islands. Another bullet point on my list!

What Can I Say?
I'm interested in almost everything. Use to like to travel, but it's too expensive now. I take Tai Chi classes, swim, volunteer in a Jump-start program for pre-schoolers. I'm an avid reader and like nearly everyone these days I follow politics avidly. I'm a former teacher and Special Projects Coordinator for a Telecommunications company, Assistant to the President of a Japanese silicon wafer manufacturing company. Am now enjoying retirement -- most of the time. I have two daughters, one son-in-law and two sons scattered all over the country. No grandchildren.
