Children Writing About the Ocean

As a former teacher, my friends know how much I enjoy reading about things that kids write and say in the classroms, consequently they send me the good, the bad and the funny things that they find. This is one of them for your afternoon giggle!

1) This is a picture of an octopus. It has eight testicles. (Kelly,
age 6)

2) Oysters' balls are called pearls. (Jerry, age 6)

3) If you are surrounded by ocean you are an island. If you don't have
ocean all round you, you are incontinent. (Wayne, age 7)

4) Sharks are ugly and mean, and have big teeth, just like Emily
Richardson. She's not my friend any more. (Kylie, age 6)

5) A dolphin breaths through an asshole on the top of its head.
(Billy, 8)

6) My uncle goes out in his boat with 2 other men and a woman and pots
and comes back with crabs. (Millie, age 6)

7) When ships had sails, they used to use the trade winds to cross the
ocean. Sometimes when the wind didn't blow the sailors would whistle to make
the wind come. My brother said they would have been better off eating beans..
(William, age 7)

8) Mermaids live in the ocean. I like mermaids. They are beautiful and
like their shiny tails, but how on earth do mermaids get pregnant? Like,
really? (Helen, age 6)

10) Some fish are dangerous. Jellyfish can sting. Electric eels can
give you a shock. They have to live in caves under the sea where I think
they have to plug themselves into chargers. (Christopher, age 7)

11) When you go swimming in the ocean, it is very cold, and it makes
my willy small. (Kevin, age 6)

12) Divers have to be safe when they go under the water. Divers can't
go down alone, so they have to go down on each other. (Becky, age 8)

14) The ocean is made up of water and fish. Why the fish don't drown I
don't know. (Bobby, age 6)

15) My dad was a sailor on the ocean. He knows all about the ocean.
What he doesn't know is why he quit being a sailor and married my mom.
(James, 7)

Sylvia, thank you so much for these...they remind me of the late Art Linklater show way back when called, I think "Kids say the funniest things". It has been a beautiful day here and these have just made it better. Have a great evening.

LOL, thanks for the laughs, Sylvia! I always wished I'd kept a journal of all the funny things my students wrote, but I have to admit your list tops anything my students said:)

Great photos for J--I had to think for awhile to come up with jonquil myself, but I hadn't thought of jasmine.

Now that is adorable. I love listening to children and how their little minds work through issues. Oh I wish we could all stay so innocent.

I bet you would have been a fabulous teacher because you are still teaching your readers and sharing your wise thoughts. My mother and three sisters and one brother all trained as teachers. Two of them are still teaching. I would have been up on charges if I had taken up teaching. No patience at all to cope with 30 kids all at once, he he. I admire teachers greatly though knowing how much work they put into it all.

Hello! Thank you for visiting over at my place and for your kind words. I wandered over here for the first time and I am so glad I did! I needed a good laugh tonight and I certainly had a few as I read this post. Too funny! You have created a very inviting and comfy blog - I will be back! Take care.

This was so sweet and funny. children have such a direct way of aproaching topics and always make us see things from a new perspective.

I've laughed myself sore, these are so funny, and so CUTE! If I were a teacher, I'd love teaching the little ones best--though I'd find it hard to keep a straight face when I had to. Thank you for sharing these; I've got a smile that's going to last a while now--

I just had to share #4 with my sister when I read it the other day, because she is petrified of sharks. She says Kylie is her new hero ;) This list is adorable.

What Can I Say?

What Can I Say?
I'm interested in almost everything. Use to like to travel, but it's too expensive now. I take Tai Chi classes, swim, volunteer in a Jump-start program for pre-schoolers. I'm an avid reader and like nearly everyone these days I follow politics avidly. I'm a former teacher and Special Projects Coordinator for a Telecommunications company, Assistant to the President of a Japanese silicon wafer manufacturing company. Am now enjoying retirement -- most of the time. I have two daughters, one son-in-law and two sons scattered all over the country. No grandchildren.
