Evening, Wisdom and Beauty!!

Good resolutions are simply checks that men draw on a bank where they have no account.  Oscar Wilde

Never tell your resolution beforehand, or it's twice as onerous a duty.

This is a glorious set of photos -- I especially like the flowers in #2.

The first of the year is soon upon us. But I get a kick out of our hoopla over certain dates. We (humans) made up those dates! We can change 'em if we want to. We can celebrate New Years in July if we want to! Or Xmas. :-)

It is rather freeing to think of things that way. We can choose what we want to celebrate any time we want 'cause all celebrations are arbitrary. Christmas is one of the most arbitrary. The Christian Church didn't even celebrate the birth of Jesus until the 4th century. And most of the Xmas traditions come from other religions/myths. But even if you put any credence in the two Gospel stories of Jesus' birth, he sure as heaven wasn't born in December. The reason Xmas is Dec. 25, is because the god Mithras, a very popular god in Rome and a huge rival to the Christian god, was born to a virgin in a cave surrounded by shepherds on Dec. 25th! The Xtn church simply adopted Mithras birthdate.

Okay, I'll quit now. I'm thinking of throwing a New Year's bash on February 1 this year. :-))

What Can I Say?

What Can I Say?
I'm interested in almost everything. Use to like to travel, but it's too expensive now. I take Tai Chi classes, swim, volunteer in a Jump-start program for pre-schoolers. I'm an avid reader and like nearly everyone these days I follow politics avidly. I'm a former teacher and Special Projects Coordinator for a Telecommunications company, Assistant to the President of a Japanese silicon wafer manufacturing company. Am now enjoying retirement -- most of the time. I have two daughters, one son-in-law and two sons scattered all over the country. No grandchildren.
