Shadow Shot Sunday!

Get out the magnifying glass, get into your best sleuthing clothes and start prowling your environment looking for those wonderful, but sometimes elusive shadows. This fun and challenging meme is hosted each week by Tracy over at Hey Harriet! Click on the icon, sign up and show us how clever you are!

I can't believe we're already approaching Fall! Our weather has been good -- gray and overcast in the morning, but it burns off by noon and it's usually really beautiful for the rest of the day -- highs in the mid to upper 60s, low 70s! So, here are my shadow shots for the day!

Sky Watch Friday!

Time to share your skies, the beauty over your world, the clouds, the colors! Sky Watch is hosted each week by Klaus and the Sky Watch team of Klaus, Sandy, Wren, Fishing Guy and me. Join us and the many people from all over the world who share theirs with us each week! Click on the icon and sign up today!

Our skies this week have been either gray or blue with few if any clouds -- better than rain, but a bit dull, so I had to look back for a little sky drama. I'm still on a Mark Twain kick as I'm fascinated by his humor, his wisdom and the fact that most of what he says is as applicable to today as it was then! May you all have beautiful skies!

"A man has no business to be depressed by a disappointment, anyway; he ought to make up his mind to get even." — Mark Twain

"If you must be indiscreet, be discrete in your indiscretion." — Mark Twain

"Fiction is obliged to stick to possibilities. Truth isn't." — Mark Twain

"The only truly prominent community that fundamentalists have so far established in any world, real or imaginary, is hell." — Mark Twain

"I became a newspaperman. I couldn't find honest employment." — Mark Twain

"It's better to stay silent and look a fool, rather than speak and remove all doubt."
— Mark Twain

"Life should begin with age and it's privileges and accumulations, and end with youth and it's capacity to splendidly enjoy such advantages." — Mark Twain

Important Warning! NOT A JOKE!

NOT A JOKE - VERY SERIOUS
THIS IS TRUE, I CHECKED IT MYSELF ON SNOPES.
Pass this on to everybody you know. Anybody that sees a plastic bottle in their yard would think nothing of picking it up to throw it away.
Looks like these things are starting to pop up around the U.S. Check the Snopes web site below, it's pretty scary.

Important warning! NOT A JOKE! Pay attention to this.
1.. A plastic bottle with a cap (Like a normal water bottle).
2. A little Drano.
3. A little water.
4. A small pi ece of foil.
5. Disturb it by moving it; and BOOM (Less than 30 seconds)!!
6. No fingers left and other serious effects to your face, eyes, etc.

People are finding these bombs in mailboxes and in their yards, just waiting for someone to pick it up intending to put it in the trash.
It takes about 30 seconds to blow after you move the thing.
See "SNOPES" below....it's true.

Evening, Wisdom and Beauty

Age does not protect you from love. But love, to some extent, protects you from age.
~ Anais Nin

There came a time when the risk to remain tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom. ~ Anais Nin

Rocks of the ages,
Jagged and huge
tough barriers
holding up
through the years....

A lashing of rain,
Erosion in a groove
of the rock face,
and the
water trickles,
drops,
flows,
deep into the mind,
somewhere,
zigzagging across
willing itself
to
see the Sun again
as it feeds the roots
of
something,
trying to grow
and bloom,
green and clean.

Sometimes,
the toughest
and the strictest,
minds
have a secret soft corner.

The New Motto for 2010!!

Never allow someone to be your priority while allowing yourself to be their option."~Authur Unknown

A Poem About Our Girlfriends

Someone will always be prettier.
Someone will always be smarter.
Some of their houses will be bigger.
Some will drive a better car.
Their children will do better in school.
And their husband will fix more things around the house.
So let it go, and love you and your circumstances
Think about it!

The prettiest woman in the world can have hell in her heart.
The most highly favored woman on your job may be unable to have children.
The richest woman you know, she's got the car, the house, the clothes~ might be lonely.

So, love who you are.
Look in the mirror in the morning and smile and say,
'I am too Blessed to be Stressed and too Anointed, to be Disappointed!'
'Winners make things happen~~ Losers let things happen.'

AND! The doormats for the day!

That's My World!

That's My World is hosted each week by Klaus and the My World team, Klaus, Sandy, Wren, Fishing Guy and me. Click on the icon and share your world with others from all over Our World! So! How is your world this week? Have you taken time to see the beauty there? What is it about your world that makes you smile or laugh or feel grateful for? Here are some of those things from my world today.

"The proverb says that Providence protects children and idiots. This is really true. I know because I have tested it." — Mark Twain

"If people are good only because they fear punishment, and hope for reward, then we are a sorry lot indeed." — Mark Twain

"Climate is what we expect, weather is what we get." — Mark Twain

"The only way to keep your health is to eat what you don't want, drink what you don't like, and do what you'd rather not." — Mark Twain

"The dictionary is the only place where success comes before work." — Mark Twain

This shot of the moon I had zoomed in and when I downloaded it from my camera I realized I had caught the leaves of a tree in our neighbor's yard against the moon. I thought it was kind of an interesting capture. The moon wasn't so big, but the leaves surely were! If you look close it's kind of like a face -- the man in the moon, maybe???

Millions of miles
up there
he looks down
on Earth,
with an expression,
bordering
on the whimsical.

First
they sent 3 guys,
with a funny vehicle,
and
one
took small steps
while
another
drove around in the sky
like a
intergalactic
Greyhound.....

So many spaceships
then
whizzed around
some to mars.

And
then there's this lady
hiding
behind trees,
and taking pictures.

What on Earth,
sorry
Moon ,
is going on ?

Why didn't Dad take me with him to Portland this time?? I hate a weekend when he's not here!

Because the last time he took you, you played so hard you hurt your legs and he had to carry you around for days and you're too big for him to have carry!

I'm not that big! I can sit in Mom's lap!

Not when I'm around!

What Can I Say?

What Can I Say?
I'm interested in almost everything. Use to like to travel, but it's too expensive now. I take Tai Chi classes, swim, volunteer in a Jump-start program for pre-schoolers. I'm an avid reader and like nearly everyone these days I follow politics avidly. I'm a former teacher and Special Projects Coordinator for a Telecommunications company, Assistant to the President of a Japanese silicon wafer manufacturing company. Am now enjoying retirement -- most of the time. I have two daughters, one son-in-law and two sons scattered all over the country. No grandchildren.
