One Day Employment

So after landing my new job as a Wal-Mart greeter,
A good find for many retirees, I lasted less than a day...

About two hours into my first day on the job a very loud,
Unattractive, mean-acting woman walked into the store with her two kids, yelling obscenities at them all the way through the entrance.
I said pleasantly, 'Good morning and welcome to Wal-Mart. Nice children you have there. Are they twins?'
The ugly woman stopped yelling long enough to say,
"No, they ain't twins. The oldest one's 9, and the other one's 7.
Why the h*#l would you think they're twins? Are you blind, or stupid?'
So I replied,
'I'm neither blind nor stupid, Ma'am, I just couldn't believe someone slept with you twice. Have a good day and thank you for shopping at Wal-Mart.'

My supervisor said I probably wasn't cut out for this line of work.

OMG!! Sylvia I can't stop laughing.I have tears rolling down my cheeks.

When we visited Salt Lake City I couldn't get over the meet and greet people, and how brave they are to do this as a job.

you are very brave, I think if I was the one I wouldn't even try to say anything, me and you may be the same it's not our line of work...

Walmart greeters are some of the bravest people I know. My comment to the "lady" would have been very similar, I guess I'm not cut out for such a job either. Thanks for the chuckles!

Very funny! I'd never make it in a customer service job - I'd probably actually say something like that!

Hi Sylvia, thanks for all the nice comments on our trip to Alaska. I'm about halfway through the adventure so there's more to come.

Oh well done Sylvia! yes, I agree and I do not think I could be polite for a fee - I would rather be so when deemed necessary and as you have stated - it is not necessarily the case!

Too too too funny. My sister-in-law is an assistant manager at Walmart. I'm going to have to share this story with her. Thank you for the chuckle.

I thought you would be really good for that kind of job. It´s hard to create so good one-liners on the spot.

I'm interested in almost everything. Use to like to travel, but it's too expensive now. I take Tai Chi classes, swim, volunteer in a Jump-start program for pre-schoolers. I'm an avid reader and like nearly everyone these days I follow politics avidly. I'm a former teacher and Special Projects Coordinator for a Telecommunications company, Assistant to the President of a Japanese silicon wafer manufacturing company. Am now enjoying retirement -- most of the time. I have two daughters, one son-in-law and two sons scattered all over the country. No grandchildren.
