ABC -- A!

Hey, it's time to start another round of ABC Wednesday hosted each week by Mrs. Denise Nesbitt! AND today is the A day! Click on the icon, sign up and show us how well you've learned your ABCs!

A is for Appaloosa

The Appaloosa is a horse breed known for its preferred leopard-spotted coat pattern and other distinctive physical characteristics. While there is evidence of leopard-spotted horses dating back to the Paleolithic era in Europe, the Nez Perce people of the American Pacific Northwest developed the American breed. They were once referred to by white settlers as the "Palouse horse," possibly after the Palouse River, which ran through the heart of Nez Perce country. Gradually, the name evolved into "Appaloosa." The Nez Perce lost most of their horses following the Nez Perce War in 1877 and the breed fell into decline for several decades. However, a small number of dedicated breeders kept the Appaloosa alive for several decades until a registry was formed in 1938. Today the Appaloosa is one of the most popular breeds in the United States, and it was named the official state horse of Idaho in 1975.

And A is for Amphora!

A is for Apples and Apricots

That Appaloosa is beautiful. They look so strong and self assured :) Love it. I love the apple and apricot trees. I haven't had an apricot in like forever. :) Well done my friend. Have a wonderful and peaceful day :)

The appaloosa's beauty deserves acclaim, as does the amphora. The fruit appears ample and aromatic. Great accumulation of A's!

You're off to a flying Round 6 A start. What fun! Beautiful photos. Because I live in Idaho country, I'm familiar with the Appaloosa and have always been fascinated by its artistic coloration. An apple a day and an apricot for good measure... Beautiful amphora!

I was struck by gigi's comment about never having seen an apple tree before. I guess we take it for granted that everyone knows about what we know about. I think an ABC form Hawaii might surprise me!
A is for all about learning!

Appaloosas are such beautiful horses--thanks for the history on this breed. Amphora is a new word to me--some kind of Grecian urn? I joined in again this week after all; just couldn't resist:)

JTG (Misalyn) said...

Everything is new to me.

I would pick those apples if am there and thinking of climbing the apricot tree is fun.

The Grecian urn is beautiful. The British Museum has a lot of them, but none lovelier than the one in your photo.

The Appaloosa photo is magnificent. I love the grace of his gait.

I want to pick one of those peaches right off the tree. It's one of my favorite fruits.

No prettier breed in my opinion.

I have never seen such a horse and it is so beautiful ! It looks as if a white tiger piece of fur had been sewed in his black fur.

Wonderful post Sylvia - very varied. Our first Dalmatian came from a kennels called Appaloosa and the breeder also had an Appaloosa horse. Our boat is called Appaloosa too - but it's not spotted!

Beautiful horse. Thanks for stopping by.

The word Amphora always reminds me of Asterix and Obelix! (Don't bury me when I'm dead, pickle my bones in an amphora of wine!) :))

I responded to your comment on the post - I'm BACK! Feels great to be home although I'm missing my parents already. :( Still growing up, as you can see. Hope you've been doing well, Sylvia. Cheers!
