Evening, Wisdom and the Beauty of Autumn

From my lovely friend in Mumbai!

Brilliant skies,
dew-fresh mornings,
fresh
yellow green leaves,
enjoying their first day
in the Kindergaarten woods.

Sunny Days,
a strong crowded green,
hanging out with the crowd,
overlooking the bay,
swinging in the breeze,
flirting in the rain,
its the Teenage Woods.

And then Life
starts
its health lessons,
some tough browning,
pale yellowing,
some angry reds
oranges,
clouds dark with
intention
of the imminent season,
its the Middle-aged woods.

It
happens to all
in nature,
a shedding
of the brown and gold,
shivering in Winter,
tough wood
seasoned by snow
and
conserving
of energy within.

The Senior woods,
a time
to draw around you
a cloud cardigan,
a nip in the air,
a sudden ray of sunlight
and a great cup
of hot tea
with a friend....

The fog comes on little cat feet. It sits looking over harbor and city on silent haunches and then moves on. ~ Carl Sandburg

Autumn, the year's last, loveliest smile. ~ William Cullen Bryant

Winter is an etching, spring a watercolor, summer an oil painting and autumn a mosaic of them all. ~ Stanley Horowitz

Thanks for visiting on Pirate Day. Do you really have that much leaf color already?

I love the fall with the changing of the leaves and the cool morning air.

I love those Carl Sandburg verses! I remember first reading them as a child. Autumn is much farther along where you live. It seems to be just starting here. The sky, water, and trees in the first photo is so atmospheric--one can feel the season changing.

I used the Carl Sandburg 'fog' poem on facebook last week, hoping the little kitty would move along swiftly. My son responded that some times the fog comes on little cats feet, takes a look around, settles down in comfort, and stays to nap.

I've always liked Sandburg's poem about little cat feet. It puts such a picture in my head. Didn't he write that about Chicago? I can't remember.

I really enjoy the colors of fall, but I am sad that summer is gone. Where did it go? So fast, yes, so fast it has disappeared. Thanks so much for sharing with all of us. We appreciate it.

Hi Sylvia,
mi piace molto l'albero rosso dell'ultima foto.
Puoi dirmi come si chiama questo genero di albero ?
Grazie e ciao :)

I'm interested in almost everything. Use to like to travel, but it's too expensive now. I take Tai Chi classes, swim, volunteer in a Jump-start program for pre-schoolers. I'm an avid reader and like nearly everyone these days I follow politics avidly. I'm a former teacher and Special Projects Coordinator for a Telecommunications company, Assistant to the President of a Japanese silicon wafer manufacturing company. Am now enjoying retirement -- most of the time. I have two daughters, one son-in-law and two sons scattered all over the country. No grandchildren.
