I believe that we should all follow Australia's example and do all we can to promote this idea, this belief. I found out about this from Bobbie's blog, Almost There, this morning and decided that I would do all that I can.
The Diverse Australia Program is an Australian Government initiative and replaces the previous Living in Harmony Program.
It is about dealing with cultural, racial and religious intolerance. They are doing this by promoting respect, fairness and a sense of belonging for everyone.
They provide information and funding to help ensure all Australians are treated fairly regardless of their background.
Everyone belongs!

I like the idea. I love being in New york City and in Montpellier as well as the population there is so diverse. But it is sometimes difficult for some people to respect other people. We have a lot of problems here for the moment and that won't probably stop before long.
Wonderful message. It's about time we got the picture that we're all rowing the same little canoe.

Deep down, I've never understood how it could be any other way. Maybe I was raised to look for similarities instead of differences. Makes my life easier since there are many more similarities to find.

I think that sounds like a fine program. Good on the Australians. We can all practice this - no need to wait for Governments to prompt us. Good for you for spreading the word.

My sister teaches children whose second language is English, they are all excited as they are celebrating this day in their school. I have to say I love the Government we have here (after 8 years of hell, sound familiar to you Sylvia?). Thanks for mentioning Australia, Sylvia!

It's great to see you spreading the Harmony Day message far and wide, Sylvia. We have been celebrating the day in Australia for the past ten years and it gets bigger every year. Celebrations are encouraged in the workplace, where people bring in international dishes to share with their workmates. Many wear orange, the colour of Harmony Day, and some dress up in national costumes/colours of other cultures. Thanks for your comments on my blog. Cheers, J Bar.
