Amazing Hummingbirds!

This is something I have never seen before, or ever even heard of. This woman lives in a Hummingbird fly zone. As they migrated, about 20 of them were in her yard. She took the little red dish, filled it with sugar water and this is the result.
The woman is Abagail Alfano of Pine, Louisiana - she has been studying them daily and one morning put the cup from the feeder, with water in it, in her hand; as they had gotten used to her standing by the feeder they came over to her hand. She says in touching they are as light as a feather. Abagail also said, 'if she had known her husband was taking pictures she would have put on makeup.'

Delightful photos! I lived in a cabin in Colorado for a few years, and we had scads of hummingbirds. They would divebomb each other and were so beautiful. I wonder if their beaks are sharp?

Yes, this is an amazing thing. But I have seen it before. If you go to my profile page, and go to my other private blog, Video Venue. you will see the first video is one of a man feeding from his hand. After watching that, click on one of the others along the bottom of the YouTube video. Or you could embed it in your own blog.

This is a real thrill for me. Years ago, our cat "caught" a hummer who was stunned but alive. My small daughter and I rescued it and in its shockeed state we both got to pick it up and protect it until it felt better. I remember that it weighed about what a quarter weighs in your hand. Its little eyes looked at us. Thank goodness the next day it flew away and seemed to be fine.

Thanks for these amazing photos.

What amazing photos. Thanks for sharing.

It reminds me of a strange experience I once had. I was sitting out on our deck early one morning have a cup of tea when a blue jay landed on the railing next to me.

It was less than 2 feet away and , obviously not frightened by me.

As we sat looking at each other, another blue jay arrived, followed by another.

My wife opened the door from the house, ten minutes later, to find me surrounded by 6 jays.

As she opened the door they all took off and I was left wondering what had just taken place.

Lovely! I've seen it before but it always amazes me. Of course I'm equally astonished with the hummingbirds in MY yard take a bath in the hose I'm holding when I water my yard. They seem to have no fear.
Hugs and blessings,

Amazing photo! My mother used to be able to feed her hummingbirds that way, and chickadees would take seeds from her hands too.

I'm interested in almost everything. Use to like to travel, but it's too expensive now. I take Tai Chi classes, swim, volunteer in a Jump-start program for pre-schoolers. I'm an avid reader and like nearly everyone these days I follow politics avidly. I'm a former teacher and Special Projects Coordinator for a Telecommunications company, Assistant to the President of a Japanese silicon wafer manufacturing company. Am now enjoying retirement -- most of the time. I have two daughters, one son-in-law and two sons scattered all over the country. No grandchildren.
