Evening, Wisdom and Beauty

I doubt that the imagination can be suppressed. If you truly eradicated it in a child, he would grow up to be an eggplant. ~Ursula K. Le Guin, The Language of the Night

Arms upraised
she stands
eyes to the skies
as some
family branches
gather about her;

As a child
soft and green
amidst many friends
in the wild garden
at the foothill,
she'd watch
the children play
as the older ones
climbed on others.

Now,
Surrounded by
older and taller
kith and kin
she looks beyond
far away
at another lady in the sea;

Like her,
she calls them all;
"Come to me,
the weary, the travelled,
rest at my feet
and lean on me;
Spring water and
Cool minds in my shade
and
then carry on
meandering
as you wonder,
how much greener
your life can really be !

Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. ~Philip K. Dick

Perhaps imagination is only intelligence having fun. ~George Scialabba

Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one. ~Albert Einstein

Most passport pictures are good likenesses, and it is time we faced it. ~Katharine Brush

It's not what you look at that matters, it's what you see. ~Henry David Thoreau

Imagination, huh? Children growing up to be eggplants - very funny. The Philip K. Dick and Einstein quotes contradict each other, yet both are true.
lovely post.

Thanks for visiting my site and I am glad you had a chuckle from my sense of humour. I like your site - are you in the pacific northwest - i love that part of the continent. And, I especially like the Thoreau quote - I am a huge fan of HDT - we need people like him today.

I have to agree with Einstein that reality does seem to be an illusion most of the time. It doesn´t go away.

I love the water lily and the stones. Grow up to be an eggplant? Kinda funny and strange.

Your last two photos of the stream and pebbles brings me back almost 30 years ago. The husband was doping his PHD research on water. We went to a stream like this. Thanks for memories. We have not been back, and I made him take the kids there this summer.

Lovely words accompanying lovely captures. Your last quote is so true... what really matters is how you see things.

What Can I Say?

What Can I Say?
I'm interested in almost everything. Use to like to travel, but it's too expensive now. I take Tai Chi classes, swim, volunteer in a Jump-start program for pre-schoolers. I'm an avid reader and like nearly everyone these days I follow politics avidly. I'm a former teacher and Special Projects Coordinator for a Telecommunications company, Assistant to the President of a Japanese silicon wafer manufacturing company. Am now enjoying retirement -- most of the time. I have two daughters, one son-in-law and two sons scattered all over the country. No grandchildren.
