I usually post skies that I can see from our deck, which faces west. There are no power lines to intrude, just beautiful, colorful afternoons and sunsets. But lately, with the arrival of fall, frequently by the end of the day it's just mostly gray. So, I tried catching a sunrise from the front porch. If you click to embiggen you can see what I mean about the intrusion of modern technology! Still the colors were lovely and it is a realistic look at nature in the city. I just don't always want to be too realistic, which I'm sure surprises no one!
How glorious a greeting the sun gives the mountains! ~John Muir
Then a neighbor, who has a second floor deck, heard me whining about the eastward view and took these next shots for me. Now, how about that for a good friend?

sunrise is as beautiful as sunset. Mahalo to your nice neighbor!
Those are fantastic. And it certainly is a bummer when modern technology gets in the way. But if it were modern don't ya think they would bury it. I'm just saying! I guess that's too easy. Love the photos and what a great neighbor :) Beautiful :)
technology does intrude with its ugliness...nature alone is difficult to find especially in cities.
I love sunrise and sunset and your sunrise photos are lovely. What a nice neighbour you have :-)
Your skies are still beautiful even with the wires. It was very nice of your neighbor to take a sunrise photo for you, the colors are awesome.
Gorgeous photos!
The photo of the header is wonderful! Looks a nice place.
These are beautiful sunrise shots, Sylvia, and what a nice neighbor to 'assist'. Beautiful color in these shots. I guess the wires just show what we who live in cities have to deal with.
Lines can be fun when you play with them like in that first capture. But I really like the firey sunset in that second shot!
Hi Sylvia,
You're a great host of this blog, always with your kind remarks.
Have a happy weekend.
Wonderful colors, and I see what you mean...it's amazing the sun can even rise through that cat's cradle of wires!
Those orange skies are always so surprising! Beautiful! :)
Great images for both you and your neighbor. I don't worry too much about wires and stuff, it is what it is especially when you are an urbanite. I do try and avoid light towers though.
I like your word embiggen. (No, I'm not being facetious.)
Good friends come always handy. Great shots and congratulate her for me.
Those are marvelous fiery skies.
Good friend, nice camera work! Happy Weekend, Sylvia
Oh what a difference a little elevation makes! Great photos Sylvia, and how nice to have sucha helpful friend.
Modern technology is a downer, but God's brilliant glory prevails! Awesome colors!
Beautiful sunrise. A reason to getting up early. Great shots.
Really beautiful photo´s,Sylvia!!I love it!Have a nice weekend!
actually the criss cross of wires adds lines and angles
the colors are so beautiful!
I have learned to try and make the wires part of the shot, they're everywhere here
What wonderful sunrise shots, Sylvia. That extra height makes all the difference for your neighbour's view and the power lines that do appear have a nice, geometric feel to them. The colour of that second shot is stunning!
Janice.
Beautiful sky shots, Sylvia. Lately our sunsets have been dreadful...well, actually non-existent. So I have been shooting mostly sunrises too. ;-)
Lovely colours.
Sylvia: Neat views from the second floor, I don't like the power lines either.
They are pretty, and worth exposing those lines.
What a nice neighbor you have.
A really great neighbor... those are incredible shots.
Sylvia, your skies are beautiful no matter which way you look. Nice sunrise. Even if technology intruded.
I love your shots - the power lines seem to emphasise the beauty of the natural. xx
What beautiful skies!
Wow! Those a phenomenal skies!
oh, wow, what a nice friend to take such spectacular shots for you. The red is amazing.
What a beautiful array of colours, your photography skills are second to none Sylvia.
All the best

All your shots are lovely. Those power lines are intrusive, yet for all the power they provide, they are a delicate web.
You do well for having a good neighbour such as yours Ma'am Sylvia to take these pretty pictures for you. It's nice to see how nature's mood transcends from gray to bright and they truly are the sailor's delight! Lovely sunrise!
Where would we be without neighbours like yours...You are right: nature offers us some wonderful things. As it so happens, mankind is part of nature...
Happy Skywatch Friday!

You captured some great colored skies.
Spectacular sunset. Your neighbor is a dear to take those photos for you!

Hi Sylvia, as usual you got your sky photos well captured! It's like fire in the sky!
When the sunset looks like this... you just can't go back in! Thanks for taking these photos for us! They're just gorgeous~~~
Enjoy a beautiful weekend, Sylvia!
The early morning is it's own very special reward. Those who always sleep through it will never experience that blessing.
beautiful orangy red, pink, sky. What time did you take the photos?
In Borneo,in August, when the natives slash and burn, the sky is red like that. Mum would say," The Natives are burning the jungle."
Intense orange colour, love it!
Wow. What a glorious sunrise!
That was a nice sunset. Ours have been gray of late, I've looked all week for an interesting sky to no avail.
I never pay attention to the lines until I seem them on my computer. I got the same thing today. Great colors, what a treat to see everyday.
Oh, Sylvia, I wish I could be that close to these fantastic views! Where I am I could see the same power lines.
My congratulations to a great Skywatch Team!
You get the most beautiful sunsets! I love the colors!
these are all gorgeous Sylvia! the power lines are barely noticeable with the intense colors you've captured. I love the orange one!
You two make a great team! Its nice to know that the sunrise is as beautiful as your sunsets.
Hello Sylvia! These pictures are fabulous, I like them very much. And the quotes are so true and interesting.

Nature turned on such a colourful light show for you this week. Thanks for sharing with sky watch friday.
Beautiful sunset colors...I agree on the "Lines" intruding...no way to crop them all out.
Eaglesbrother
They are all great but that seond one is amazing! Have a good weekend.
My problem with skywatch is that I seldom look up since I am so tall. JK- great pics Sylvia!
The silhouettes are lovely :)

No matter how hard we try it is difficult avoiding telephone wires, etc., so we can capture that "clean/pure" shot. How sweet of your neighbor. Gorgeous colors.
What a wonderful neighbour, and brilliant skies!! I loved these, electric wires and all. (what can you do??) LOL
I enjoyed the beauty of your skies, Sylvia.
You have a perfect spot for enjoying both sunrise and sunsets.
Have a nice weekend.
Great, colourful skies! Me, I am living with the gray today! There is no way I am going up to the chilly roof to see what is going on behind me!! Thanks for your friend's great contribution.
I always love the reds, pinks, and oranges in the sky
And who says whining doesn't work?! Beautiful photos, all, and love the quotes too.
Happy weekend!
That's a good friend with a good eye for beauty! Just lovely. Your first shot is good also with the sillhouettes of powerlines creating their own fractual design in the sky.
Awesome colours
Such beautiful, colorful skies.
Nice colors, and great neighbor too!!!! Thanks for sharing
With beautiful skies like this who cares if modern technology tries to get in the way? The gorgeous colors still come through.
beautiful skies.thanks for dropping by and checking out the sunrise here.
These are gorgeous!
My husband has said many times since we retired and moved to the country that he always hated we couldn't see the expanse of sky when we lived in suburbia.
The best part here on all our five acres and my neighbors - underground wires. :)
Where people find all these red sunsets? They must exist if I see them here too! Lovely stuff.
