Sky Watch Friday!

Over 350 people from all over the world have shared their skies here on Sky Watch! Sky Watch is hosted each Friday by Klaus and the Sky Watch Team, Sandy, Wren, Fishing Guy, Louise and myself. Click on the icon and sign up to share yours with us! Please do read and follow the instructions that are listed on the Sky Watch home page.

I usually post skies that I can see from our deck, which faces west. There are no power lines to intrude, just beautiful, colorful afternoons and sunsets. But lately, with the arrival of fall, frequently by the end of the day it's just mostly gray. So, I tried catching a sunrise from the front porch. If you click to embiggen you can see what I mean about the intrusion of modern technology! Still the colors were lovely and it is a realistic look at nature in the city. I just don't always want to be too realistic, which I'm sure surprises no one!

How glorious a greeting the sun gives the mountains! ~John Muir

Then a neighbor, who has a second floor deck, heard me whining about the eastward view and took these next shots for me. Now, how about that for a good friend?

Adopt the pace of nature: her secret is patience. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

The poetry of the earth is never dead. ~John Keats

Forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long to play with your hair. ~Kahlil Gibran

Those are fantastic. And it certainly is a bummer when modern technology gets in the way. But if it were modern don't ya think they would bury it. I'm just saying! I guess that's too easy. Love the photos and what a great neighbor :) Beautiful :)

technology does intrude with its ugliness...nature alone is difficult to find especially in cities.

Your skies are still beautiful even with the wires. It was very nice of your neighbor to take a sunrise photo for you, the colors are awesome.

The photo of the header is wonderful! Looks a nice place.

These are beautiful sunrise shots, Sylvia, and what a nice neighbor to 'assist'. Beautiful color in these shots. I guess the wires just show what we who live in cities have to deal with.

Lines can be fun when you play with them like in that first capture. But I really like the firey sunset in that second shot!

Hi Sylvia,
You're a great host of this blog, always with your kind remarks.
Have a happy weekend.

Wonderful colors, and I see what you mean...it's amazing the sun can even rise through that cat's cradle of wires!

Those orange skies are always so surprising! Beautiful! :)

Great images for both you and your neighbor. I don't worry too much about wires and stuff, it is what it is especially when you are an urbanite. I do try and avoid light towers though.

I like your word embiggen. (No, I'm not being facetious.)

actually the criss cross of wires adds lines and angles

the colors are so beautiful!

I have learned to try and make the wires part of the shot, they're everywhere here

What wonderful sunrise shots, Sylvia. That extra height makes all the difference for your neighbour's view and the power lines that do appear have a nice, geometric feel to them. The colour of that second shot is stunning!

Beautiful sky shots, Sylvia. Lately our sunsets have been dreadful...well, actually non-existent. So I have been shooting mostly sunrises too. ;-)

All your shots are lovely. Those power lines are intrusive, yet for all the power they provide, they are a delicate web.

You do well for having a good neighbour such as yours Ma'am Sylvia to take these pretty pictures for you. It's nice to see how nature's mood transcends from gray to bright and they truly are the sailor's delight! Lovely sunrise!

Where would we be without neighbours like yours...You are right: nature offers us some wonderful things. As it so happens, mankind is part of nature...

beautiful orangy red, pink, sky. What time did you take the photos?

In Borneo,in August, when the natives slash and burn, the sky is red like that. Mum would say," The Natives are burning the jungle."

Intense orange colour, love it!

Wow. What a glorious sunrise!

That was a nice sunset. Ours have been gray of late, I've looked all week for an interesting sky to no avail.

No matter how hard we try it is difficult avoiding telephone wires, etc., so we can capture that "clean/pure" shot. How sweet of your neighbor. Gorgeous colors.

That's a good friend with a good eye for beauty! Just lovely. Your first shot is good also with the sillhouettes of powerlines creating their own fractual design in the sky.

These are gorgeous!
My husband has said many times since we retired and moved to the country that he always hated we couldn't see the expanse of sky when we lived in suburbia.
The best part here on all our five acres and my neighbors - underground wires. :)

Where people find all these red sunsets? They must exist if I see them here too! Lovely stuff.
